Job Description
The Security Guard I will be responsible for safeguarding employees, equipment, and facilities against fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, and other potential hazards. Conducts periodic patrols of campus, reporting irregularities, damage, theft, or unusual occurrences.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Patrols assigned premises: Monitor’s area traffic; investigates suspicious activities; listens for and reports local alarms; may report to county/municipal authorities when necessary.
  • Registers and directs visitors, checks for appropriate identification, and contacts their host for escort.
  • Responds to calls and alarms. Responds, investigates, and reports through verbal and written format on accidents, illnesses, and incidents.
  • Monitors security systems ensuring doors are not forced, left open or otherwise breached; monitors alarms to make sure they are set and operational.
  • Completes daily shift report.
  • Reports on alarms for: freezers, cold rooms, warm rooms, incubators, autoclaves, or mechanical equipment to the Facilities or Building Services Departments.
  • Provides escort service to staff and students as requested to ensure safety.
  • Monitors CCTV security video.
  • Documents and reports on the malfunction of equipment for: Facilities, Building Services, EH&S and Security.
  • Monitors the access control system to detect proper card use; door mechanical problems and system problems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.           
EXPECTED SALARY:         
Commensurate with experience.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:         
High school diploma or equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1 year of related Security Officer experience or equivalent.
  • Must be available for flexible shift scheduling.
  • Must have a professional demeanor as well as good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is preferred.
  • Experience/working with Law Enforcement agencies is preferred.
