Job Description
The full-time Maintenance Generalist II will support the demands of the Institute’s maintenance operations and perform general maintenance services and repairs which include welding, plumbing, painting, carpentry and as a locksmith.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for building and/or installing shelves, cabinets, lab tops, doors and desk keyboard trays; hanging signs, pictures and boards; repairing door hinges, knobs and closures.
  • Responsible for replacing ballasts, electrical outlets, light switches and light bulbs; hanging light fixtures; repairing or replacing frayed power cords and plugs.
  • Perform inspections on sinks, drinking fountains, urinals, toilets, unclogs drains, install pipes and perform light repairs of sinks and garbage disposals.
  • Responsible for replacing floor and ceiling tiles and caulking around bathroom fixtures.
  • Works with specialized lab support equipment including hoods, incubators, freezers or other lab equipment as assigned. Moves equipment, freezers and furniture.
  • Responsible for responding to emergency calls and equipment alarms; evaluates problem and makes repairs or requests appropriate specialist.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supply maintenance.
  • Responsible for estimating labor and material costs for work requests; may order supplies.
  • Performs routine work orders and preventative maintenance tasks, as assigned.
  • Accurately records daily hours worked and time spent on individual tasks.
  • Works daily with the Facilities Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Software (Micromain); BAS software, and the Footprints work order system.
  • May perform related tasks and work of other Facilities department personnel, as required or assigned.
  • Interprets blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications to determine installation or repair requirements.
EXPECTED SALARY:         
$21.00-$25.00 per hour.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:         
A high school diploma (or equivalent) and two (2) to four (4) years of experience in the field or in a related area.  Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience working in a research, hospital, or university setting is preferred.
  • Carpentry and/or welding experience are preferred.
