FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tequesta, Fla. (October 25, 2022) - Lighthouse ArtCenter presents over two dozen small and large-scale original works by the widely-collected neo-expressionist artist Hunt Slonem. The World According to Hunt Slonem exhibition runs through December 10, 2022, at Lighthouse ArtCenter, 373 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, FL 33469. A Meet the Artist Reception takes place on Thursday, November 17, 5 - 7 pm, where guests can meet and mingle with the artist best known for his "maximalist" paintings of wildlife exotica - most famously birds, rabbits, and butterflies. Admission is free for members and a $5 suggested donation for nonmembers. For more information, visit lighthousearts.org.

Slonem's work can be found in over 250 museums worldwide and is a favorite of the rich and famous, including celebrities Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lopez, and Julianne Moore, to name a few. His endearing subject matter, predominantly in oil on canvas, has a reverence for nature and brightens any room, contemporary or traditional. His brilliant colors, thickly applied paint, spontaneous mark-making, and scratched hatch marks show his fascination with manipulating paint.

"There's a spiritual message behind everything I do, and I'm fascinated by nature and its purity. I'm endlessly mesmerized by patterns in nature, which is why I use so much repetition just as in nature there is repetition in blades of grass, the leaves of trees, and feathers of birds." - Hunt Slonem

Slonem has lived in many places, including Nicaragua, Mexico, and Hawaii, whose tropical and exotic birds, butterflies, and plants are throughout his work. More recently, the artist floats between metropolitan Manhattan, where his 25,000 square-foot studio is located, and his antebellum homes in Louisiana. Slonem "collects" estates that inspire his work and has restored several forgotten historical southern plantations.

"My whole life could be summed up by the word exotica." - Hunt Slonem

Janeen Mason is the Curator of the exhibition, which is graciously sponsored by Joanne Leonhardt Cassullo and the Dorothea Leonhardt Fund of the Communities Foundation of Texas Inc. Meyer Law Firm is sponsoring the Meet the Artist Reception.
