Tequesta, Fla. (September 30, 2022) - From October 13 – December 10, Lighthouse ArtCenter presents the widely-collected neo-expressionist artist Hunt Slonem in a stunning showing of The World According to Hunt Slonem and back by popular demand, the contemporary ceramics exhibition, LUSH2. The exhibitions occur at Lighthouse ArtCenter, 373 Tequesta Drive, Tequesta, FL 33469. Admission is free for members and a $5 suggested donation for nonmembers. For more information, visit lighthousearts.org.

The World According to Hunt Slonem exhibit will show over two dozen small and large-scale original works by Hunt Slonem. Slonem, based in Manhattan, is known for his neo-expressionist style paintings of bunnies, tropical birds, and butterflies. His endearing subject matter, predominantly in oil on canvas, works in both contemporary and traditional settings.

Slonem's work can be found in over 250 museums worldwide and is a favorite of the rich and famous, including celebrities Kate Hudson, Kris and Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, and Julianne Moore, to name a few. The exhibition is graciously sponsored by Joanne Leonhardt Cassullo and the Dorothea Leonhardt Fund of the Communities Foundation of Texas Inc.

"We are excited to open the season with concurrent avant-garde exhibitions. Hunt Slonem's paintings are like portals into the universe. He applies thick paint with abandon bringing his subjects into focus with vivid colors and rich textures. During receptions, we will be giving magnifying glasses to our guests so they can look more closely at his work," states Curator Janeen Mason. "LUSH2 will be equally stimulating to the senses. A nationwide call to ceramicists has created a vast collection of pieces that explore the connection between art, design, and function."

LUSH2 is a contemporary ceramics exhibition that showcases current and innovative pieces that utilize clay as a primary material. The juried exhibition includes over seventy-five works from artists all over the country. Esteemed ceramicist Brian Rochefort from Los Angeles will judge the entries and award over $4,000 in cash and prizes. The ceramics range in scale and form, bringing many exotic textures, glazes, and colors. The pieces are a combination of functional, sculptural, and experimental artistic expressions. First Republic Bank graciously sponsors LUSH2.

"The pieces in LUSH2 demonstrate that a 2,000-year-old medium can be progressive and experimental," said Director of Ceramics at Lighthouse ArtCenter Chad Steve. "Collectors will enjoy the exhibition's rich colors, unexpected textures, and techniques."

The opening reception and LUSH2 Awards Ceremony, judged by internationally renowned ceramicist Brian Rochefort takes place Thursday, October 13, 5 - 7 pm. A Meet the Artist Reception takes place on Thursday, November 17, 5 - 7 pm, where guests can meet and mingle with Hunt Slonem. Meyer Law Firm in Jupiter sponsors the receptions.
